From Legacy & Vintage to Premodern
The interactive, instant-speed Magic you love - Brainstorm, counters, Swords, Force of Will - minus the most broken enablers and the four-figure manabase. A lower power ceiling means more games of actual Magic and fewer games decided on turn one.
What Changes
The pillars survive
Brainstorm, Swords to Plowshares, Force of Will, Daze, Stifle, Wasteland, and the Onslaught fetchlands are all legal. The instant-speed interaction and stack play you came for are fully intact.
The broken enablers fall away
No Power Nine, no Mishra’s Workshop, no ABUR dual lands (Revised pre-dates the pool). Manabases are fetch-to-basics, pain lands, and filters - no turn-one degenerate starts to fear.
A lower, healthier power ceiling
Without the most explosive cards, games go longer and decisions matter more. Fewer matches are decided by "did you have Force for my combo"; more are decided by play.
A fraction of the price
No $400 dual lands or Power Nine. A tuned, competitive deck is genuinely affordable, and the fixed card pool means it stays that way.
Find Your Deck
Whatever you already love to play has a home here. Each row maps a Legacy / Vintage strategy to the Premodern deck that scratches the same itch.
Standstill, Swords, Wasteland, Factory - the most Legacy-feeling deck in the format.
Duress, Pernicious Deed, Spiritmonger - fair and grindy.
Phyrexian Dreadnought + Stifle - a turn-two 12/12.
Lackey, Piledriver, Ringleader - the classic engine.
Bolt, Fireblast, Price of Progress.
Entomb + Exhume - same turn-two nightmare.
Survival of the Fittest finds the answer every time.
Illusions + Donate - the premier Premodern combo kill.
Priest of Titania, Gaea’s Cradle mana explosions.
Lock them out and ride it home.
