Ugw Madness
Madness Aggro
Overview
"This blue-green-white build turns discard into tempo: Careful Study and Wild Mongrel pitch Arrogant Wurm and Basking Rootwalla so their madness costs let you recast them at a discount, while Call of the Herd flashes back from the graveyard, all accelerated by Birds of Paradise. Anurid Brushhopper and Wonder give the green beaters resilience and flying evasion, while Mana Leak, Daze, and Swords to Plowshares protect the curve and Armageddon slams the door once it lands ahead on board."
Game Plan
UGW Madness opens by deploying a discard outlet as fast as possible, with Wild Mongrel on turn two as the ideal line and Aquamoeba as a backup, then uses that outlet alongside Careful Study and Frantic Search to pay madness costs rather than full retail. Basking Rootwalla hits the battlefield free on the discard trigger; Arrogant Wurm follows for three mana instead of five. The result is a board that arrives a full turn ahead of schedule: a 4/4 trample threat backed by a 1/1 that can pump at instant speed. Circular Logic, pitched from hand through Wild Mongrel, doubles as both a discard enabler and near-free permission for a single blue mana, protecting the threat base from the removal that would otherwise stall the clock. Swords to Plowshares clears anything that blocks profitably, keeping the early damage count moving.
Once the aggro assault has compressed the opponent's life total, Wonder in the graveyard, discarded through any outlet while you control an Island, grants flying to every creature you control, making racing back virtually impossible. Armageddon serves as the hard close: the deck's curve is so compressed that landing an Armageddon while holding even one madness creature and mana for Circular Logic freezes the opponent out of meaningful interaction permanently. In longer games, Deep Analysis flashed back from the graveyard and Squee, Goblin Nabob recycling discard activations rebuild resources faster than most opponents can answer, giving the deck a genuine second gear when the first wave trades off.
