Sneak Attack
Sneak Attack Combo
Overview
"Sneak Attack puts a fat creature from hand onto the battlefield for a single red mana, granting it haste before sacrificing it at the next end step, turning a one-mana activation into an immediate alpha strike. Orcish Lumberjack and Tinder Wall accelerate Sneak Attack out as early as turn two, while Survival of the Fittest tutors the right body for the moment and recurs Squee, Goblin Nabob as endless discard fuel. Dragon Tyrant, Phantom Nishoba, Nicol Bolas, and Crater Hellion each close the game differently, hitting hard, draining life, or sweeping the board."
Game Plan
Sneak Attack is a tempo-combo deck whose opening turns are entirely consumed by building toward a single explosive activation. Birds of Paradise, Tinder Wall, and Orcish Lumberjack serve as the acceleration suite, with Orcish Lumberjack converting a Forest and itself into three red mana being enough to land Sneak Attack on turn two. Sylvan Library smooths those early draws without trading cards away, and Ancient Tomb compresses the timeline in lists that run it. Once the enchantment is live, the deck spends one red mana to deploy an otherwise uncastable threat, swing immediately, and let Sneak Attack's sacrifice clause erase the risk of leaving it on a vulnerable board. Survival of the Fittest doubles as search and engine: discarding Squee, Goblin Nabob (which returns itself from the graveyard to hand each upkeep) lets you tutor a different threat every turn at no net card cost.
Every threat in the suite is chosen to generate value even when it does not kill outright. Dragon Tyrant's double strike and firebreathing compress life totals in a single combat; Crater Hellion sweeps blockers on entry before being sacrificed, clearing the path for a follow-up activation the same turn; Symbiotic Wurm and Penumbra Wurm leave tokens behind after the sacrifice, building permanent board presence across multiple turns; Phantom Nishoba's phantom counters prevent racing it with direct damage while its life-gain neutralises aggression. Genesis in the graveyard reclaims each spent threat at the next upkeep, binding the whole package into a self-sustaining loop that compounds pressure every turn Sneak Attack remains in play.
