Game Plan

The opening priority is establishing the tax before stripping lands: Mox Diamond enables a first-turn Sphere of Resistance, and every Thermokarst or Winter's Grasp cast afterward hits an opponent already paying an extra mana per spell, so losing a land is compounded by the ongoing cost increase. Rishadan Port and Wasteland extend pressure at instant speed, tapping a land through the upkeep or permanently removing a nonbasic, ensuring whatever mana survived sorcery-speed destruction still cannot pay the Sphere tax. Terravore rewards this entire line: every land entering any graveyard, whether from Wasteland activations, Mox Diamond's entry discard, or the opponent's fetch lands, translates directly into power, letting the creature threaten lethal with no further investment.

When the fast lock stalls, the deck pivots through two grind engines. Sylvan Library trades life for card velocity to find the next denial piece; that life is freely spent because a large Terravore makes racing irrelevant. Oath of Druids provides a parallel threat. Once the opponent controls more creatures it triggers each upkeep, building board presence without cards or mana, and is most punishing after Cataclysm collapses the board: both players sacrifice down to one permanent per type, and Oath left in play immediately begins rebuilding while Terravore, swollen by every land both players sacrificed, closes the game. Swords to Plowshares removes blockers and maintains the creature-count gap Oath requires, while Enlightened Tutor at the end of the opponent's turn converts one white mana into whichever of Sphere of Resistance, Oath of Druids, or Sylvan Library the position demands.
