Game Plan

MUD Stax is a prison deck built around a two-phase opening: accelerate into a lock, then let attrition do the work. Metalworker, Mind Stone, and Thran Dynamo compress the mana curve so dramatically that Tangle Wire and Sphere of Resistance land a full turn cycle ahead of where opponents can interact with them. Sphere of Resistance raises the cost of every spell the opponent casts while Tangle Wire forces their permanents into a tap-out state each upkeep, and with Winter Orb suppressing untaps, that tap-out state becomes permanent. Black Vise turns the resulting inability to develop a hand into direct damage, punishing any draw that cannot be spent. The opponent is left choosing between playing spells through a tax and bleeding to a Vise, or holding cards and bleeding anyway.

Once the lock is in place the deck converts its mana advantage into a closing engine. Smokestack ticks upward and bleeds the opponent's permanents faster than they can rebuild under tax and limited untaps. Masticore provides repeatable creature removal while attacking through an otherwise stalemated board, fueled by the surplus artifacts the deck produces. Karn, Silver Golem animates spent mana rocks into unexpected attackers, recouping every Mind Stone and Thran Dynamo as a threat. Mishra's Helix taps opposing lands during the main phase to deny any window for recovery. Powder Keg handles the permanents the lock cannot answer cleanly. The deck wins not through a single explosive play but by widening a resource gap until no line of play remains.
