Fires Of Yavimaya
Haste Aggro
Overview
"A Gruul aggro deck built around Fires of Yavimaya, an enchantment that grants haste to every creature and can be sacrificed to pump a creature +2/+2. Birds of Paradise and Llanowar Elves accelerate into turn-three Fires, after which threats attack immediately: Blastoderm swings as a 5/5 shroud the turn it lands, Saproling Burst spawns hasty tokens, and Flametongue Kavu clears a blocker as it enters. Lightning Bolt and Call of the Herd supply reach and sustained pressure to collapse life totals fast."
Game Plan
Fires of Yavimaya is a Gruul haste engine that compresses the clock to lethal before opponents can mount a defense. The game plan starts on turn one with a mana accelerant, Birds of Paradise or Llanowar Elves, and pivots immediately to a turn-two Fires of Yavimaya. From that point every creature in hand becomes a haste attacker: Blastoderm crashes in as a 5/5 shroud the same turn it resolves, Shivan Wurm punishes any slow draw with a seven-point swing, and Call of the Herd generates a 3/3 token that swings before the opponent untaps. Flametongue Kavu doubles as removal and a hasty four-power body, clearing whatever blocker threatens to stall the board and then joining the attack immediately. Lightning Bolt finishes off a problematic creature or shaves the final points from a life total that combat math can't quite reach. The sequence is almost always the same (accelerate, land Fires, deploy threats), and the deck punishes any deviation in the opponent's mana development faster than most formats allow recovery.
When the board stalls or removal strips away early threats, Saproling Burst provides the sustained reach the deck needs: fading counters become haste Saprolings under Fires of Yavimaya, letting the deck manufacture a lethal wave rather than simply trading resources. Ravenous Baloth anchors the long game: a 4/4 that absorbs removal and can be sacrificed for life to survive a burn-heavy race. Call of the Herd's flashback refills the threat count after sweepers, ensuring the deck never runs fully dry. The backup plan is not control; it is simply a second wave of hasty bodies arriving before the opponent stabilizes.
