Game Plan

Broccoli Soup earns its name by blending two normally separate strategies into one engine: the black half deploys shadow creatures and hand disruption before the opponent can establish a board, while the green half supplies persistent threats that survive the attrition those shadow creatures create. Dark Ritual is the accelerant that makes the combination work on turn one: a single swamp into Ritual produces enough mana to land Dauthi Slayer and still cast Duress, stripping the answer before the shadow creature ever attacks. Carnophage and Sarcomancy each convert a single black mana into two power, meaning the deck can present a clock on its very first land drop while keeping mana free for disruption.

Rancor is the glue between the two colors: it gives shadow creatures trample so their unblockable damage cannot be reduced to zero by a single chump blocker, and it bounces back to hand whenever its host dies, making every removal spell the opponent spends a tempo loss rather than a clean answer. Drinker of Sorrow extends that hand-pressure dimension into the creature zone, forcing discards on arrival while also adding a 4/3 body that demands immediate attention. When the linear aggro plan runs into a sweeper or a stabilizing blocker, Call of the Herd provides two waves of green pressure across its main cast and flashback, bodies that are immune to black removal and that arrive on entirely different turns, keeping the damage clock ticking even after the shadow creatures have traded off.
