Angry Ghoul
Hermit Druid Combo
Overview
"Angry Ghoul is a glass-cannon combo deck that taps Hermit Druid, built with no basic lands, to mill its entire library in one activation. That dumps Phyrexian Dreadnought into the graveyard as fuel, then Shallow Grave or Reanimate returns Sutured Ghoul, which exiles the milled creatures to enter as an arbitrarily large body; Dragon Breath grants the haste to attack at once. Lotus Petal and Elvish Spirit Guide compress the kill toward turn one, Stifle keeps a hard-cast Dreadnought alive as backup, and Duress and Cabal Therapy strip disruption before the combo goes off."
Game Plan
Angry Ghoul is a permission-light combo deck that assembles a one-shot kill rather than developing a board. The opening hand exists to do exactly one thing: resolve Hermit Druid under cover of hand disruption, then chain a reanimation spell on the same turn the library empties. Duress and Cabal Therapy are not supplemental protection; they are structural, firing before any permanent touches the battlefield to confirm the path is clear. Lotus Petal and Elvish Spirit Guide supply the burst mana that lets disruption and the combo occupy the same turn, while Worldly Tutor fetches whichever creature piece is missing, cast at end of opponent's turn to put it on top for the draw. Once Hermit Druid taps and the library resolves into the graveyard, Sutured Ghoul arrives via Shallow Grave or Reanimate, exiles Phyrexian Dreadnought and whatever else hit the yard, and enters as a creature whose power is measured in double digits. Dragon Breath returns from the graveyard attached to it automatically, delivering haste and the attack that ends the game.
The backup plan runs on the same pieces but through a different axis. Phyrexian Dreadnought can be cast directly for one mana when Stifle is in hand to counter its own sacrifice trigger, producing a standalone 12/12 attacker that bypasses the graveyard entirely. Vision Charm mills four cards to seed the yard when Hermit Druid is unavailable, and Krosan Reclamation recovers from disruption by shuffling Sutured Ghoul or Phyrexian Dreadnought out of a spent or partially assembled graveyard back into the library for a second attempt. The deck has no interest in a long game: every card either accelerates the kill turn or ensures the one disruptive spell standing between the combo and the win gets named and taken before the Druid taps.
